Scratch Night #1 – International Women's Day Showcase

Scratch Night #1 marked the launch of a new writer development initiative designed to support emerging artists from across the Wellington Shire while celebrating International Women's Day.

Presented at The Wedge Performing Arts Centre, this inaugural event provided local writers with the opportunity to share fresh ideas, develop new work, and present original stories in front of a live audience. Created as a supportive platform for emerging creatives, Scratch Night encouraged artists to experiment, take creative risks, and connect with local audiences through the power of storytelling.

The showcase featured a collection of original works and excerpts by Wellington Shire writers, offering audiences a unique insight into the early stages of new theatrical works. Performed in an intimate and welcoming environment, the evening celebrated creativity, community, and the importance of fostering new artistic voices in the region.

Held in recognition of International Women's Day, Scratch Night #1 also supported an important local cause, with all proceeds donated to GippsCASA. Through the combination of storytelling and community engagement, the event highlighted the strength of local creative talent while raising awareness and support for women and families affected by violence.

As the first event of its kind, Scratch Night #1 laid the foundation for a program dedicated to nurturing local writers and providing opportunities for new stories to be developed and shared on stage.
